Southern Region

Southern Region DECA!

I’m Lee Hasson, your regional VP for 2009-2010. I’d like to welcome all of you who are new to DECA and thank you for joining. Returning members, it’s great to have you with us again too. I look forward to meeting most of you this year; it’s going to be great! We have a lot of great stuff planned for all of you guys. If you get a chance to meet Jeff McCauley, our new state advisor, please take a second to shake his hand and thank him because he has been overflowing with ideas on how to make your DECA experience better.

For those of you who weren’t aware, we have already done our first state-wide activity. UtahDECA promoted the Dew Tour, we received all sorts of resources from Alli Sports and used them to get the word out and then got free Dew Tour tickets! We hope to do this again when the winter Dew Tour comes around. Please encourage your chapters to participate, it is a blast! Some other events you have to look forward to this year are:

    * the Mascot Bowl at Lehi High School
    * “Momentum” this year’s Fall Leadership Conference, to be held in Park City
    * “Power of Leadership” an activity-based leadership experience for all chapter members, not just chapter officers!
    * “Front Office 2009” UtahDECA is going to a JAZZ GAME, but before it begins we have the opportunity to hear from the Utah Jazz front office about the business of sports.
    * State CDC is looking pretty good this year! To be held at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. We are planning tons of activities to make this our best State CDC yet, it’s going to be a blast and so we want a record turnout!

Seniors, this is your last year with DECA, make it count! Start getting together with your chapter and participate actively so we can show those other regions what’s up! AND so you can join us at nationals in Louisville this year.

One last thing I want to talk about is membership. Obviously, DECA is the coolest club ever, or else you wouldn’t even be reading this. So why don’t we have more members? Talk to your friends, get them to join! Your love for DECA is worthless, unless you communicate it. Don’t be afraid to show your passion for DECA, how do you expect everyone else to get excited about DECA and join if you aren’t excited yourself? The more the merrier! Not to mention we state officers have whipped up a little incentive for chapters who are doing a good job at recruiting. The DECA DRAW! You’ll get more information about this promotion at Momentum in Park City.

We are going to have an awesome year! Thanks for reading, and if there is anything I can do to help you and your chapter out, please do not hesitate to send me an email or give me a call!

Thanks,

Lee Hasson, Southern Region VP
